The Saga of Magdi Allam, from Italy’s Most Famous Muslim Intellectual to Christian

Magdi Allam (born in 1952) is an Egyptian intellectual who is now an Italian citizen, since 1986.Till recently he was the most famous Muslim in Italy, and a real moderate with no ifs, buts or maybes. He was sent to Catholic schools as a child even though he was a Muslim, studying in elementary and high school Catholic schools. In 1972 he left Egypt to study at the La Sapienza University in Rome where he graduated in sociology.

He became a journalist for the famous Italian newspaper La Republica (1978-2003).In 1991 he made a pilgrimage to Mecca with his mother. And he is today married to an Italian lady called Valentina Colombo. Later in 2003 he became the deputy director of the equally famous Corriere della Sera.

A Muslim who was Constantly against the Islamic Terrorists

When he was a Muslim (which he was till 2008) he was very different from the other Muslims who condemn the Muslim terrorists. He was the only one who, while continuing to believe in the Koran and Muhammad after 9/11 of 2001,constantly wrote books against them. He wasn’t like the others who only say a few words and never do anything. He very actively spoke against:

1.Hamas and Hezbullah, condemning their suicide bombers.

2.Ahmadinejad, the president of Iran, and told of the danger of Iran getting the nuclear bomb, that it would use it. He even once held a public manifestation against Iran’s threat to exterminate Israel.

What was the result? He was issued death threats by Hamas, the terrorist group, and has had to live under police protection ever since.

He became a Christian in 2008

He finally lost faith in Islam and in 2008 became a Catholic Christian, being publicly baptized by Pope Benedict live on TV during Easter. He has changed his name from Magdi Allam to Magdi Cristiano Allam. It is the evangelical belief that there are many saved, born-again Catholics, the minimum to being saved being having “Jesus in your heart“, and Allam certainly has Jesus in his heart.

His Life after becoming a Christian

It has been interesting:
